Middle Park is part of a 4 km long beach that runs from the Cowdroy Street drain to the large Station Street Pier. There are three lifesaving clubs on the beach: at Middle Park, South Melbourne and Port Melbourne; together with the Kerferd Road Pier and a small boat harbour. The Middle Park section is a straight, 1 km long, south-west facing beach, backed by a low seawall, promenade and busy Beaconsfield Parade. Access is available along the length of the beach, with parking limited to the road. The Middle Park Life Saving Club was founded in 1913. It also houses a kiosk and dressing rooms. The beach is exposed to any south through westerly winds and waves, and these usually build a 50 m wide beach, with a moderate slope and a single bar about 50 m wide. The bar is predominantly shallow and attached to the beach, with rip channels sometimes cutting across the bar every 100 m. The rips are only active when waves are breaking across the bar.

Swimming

The lifesaving club patrols the beach in front of the club house and this is the best place to bathe. Avoid the rip channels and stay on the shallow bars.

Surfing

During very strong south-westerlies there is surf along this beach, with the Kerferd Street Pier being the most popular location.

Fishing

Beach fishing is best when there are rip holes, otherwise the drain north of the club house and Kerferd Road Pier are used to access deeper water.

General

A readily accessible beach, with amenities at the lifesaving club. This is a popular windsurfing area.
