Bongaree Beach (1558) fronts the town of Bongaree on the south-western end of Bribie Island. The 500m long, narrow high tide beach faces west across the deep, 500m wide Pumicestone passage. The beach is backed by a grassy foreshore reserve and the town centre, and has a boat ramp. It is fronted by 50 to 100m wide sand flats, then the deep channel.

Swimming

Woorim is a relatively safe beach, particularly under normal low waves. Be careful when waves exceed 1 m as they can produce a heavy shorebreak, rips and a drag along the beach. South of Skirmish Point and along Bongaree Beach the waves are usually low, however tidal currents become an increasing hazard.

Surfing

Usually a low shorebreak, which closes out in bigger surf.

Fishing

A very popular fishing destination for both beach and bay fishing.

General

The closest surfing beach north of Brisbane and a popular weekend and holiday destination.
